ExxonMobil's strategic focus in education is on math and science, since they are now - and will increasingly be - the universal languages of the global workplace, and are critical tools for success in today's high-tech world. They invest heavily in math and science education in the United States and support initiatives that encourage students to take an active interest in careers in the math and science fields, encourage the professional development of highly qualified teachers and promote involvement of women and minorities in these subjects.

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation is working to close the achievement gap in the US by supporting programs to improve large urban school districts in cities nationwide. They strongly emphasize the use of performance management, an approach that fosters a culture dedicated to accountability and collaboration and uses technology to gather, analyze and report information. The Foundation supports innovative and effective programs that provide fundamental prerequisites to equip youth to learn and excel in a world driven by the digital economy.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's education work in the United States is focused on two major initiatives: ensuring that 80 percent of students graduate from high school wth the knowledge and skills they need to complete college, and doubling the number of students who earn a postsecondary degeree or certificate by age 26. Ultimately, they are working to help all young people graduate high school with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life.
