Carolyn Bacon Dickson

Executive Director, O'Donnell Foundation

Carolyn Dickson is Executive Director of the O’Donnell Foundation in Dallas.  The mission of the foundation is to strengthen education, especially science and engineering at the graduate level, and to improve the math and science teacher corps in U.S. public schools.   She previously served in Washington as Chief of Staff to former Senator John Tower of Texas.

During her tenure at the O’Donnell Foundation, Ms. Dickson has been appointed to a federal and state positions dealing with education reform. Former President George H.W. Bush appointed her to the White House Education Policy and Advisory Council.  Also, she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a Director of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting where she was elected Vice Chairman of the Board.     In Texas, she served a six-year term on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  She was named the first chairman of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board of Texas.   In 2003-04 she was appointed by the Governor to the Texas Joint Select Committee on Public School Finance. 
 
Current board memberships include the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, Laying the Foundation, Inc. of Dallas, and Statewide Clinical Trials Network of Texas.  
 
She and her husband live in Dallas.
