PALISADES - With alarmingly few Hispanics contemplating careers in technology, dozens of leaders from government, education, business and community organizations gathered yesterday to learn ways to encourage them to pursue such jobs.

By tapping the country's sizeable and growing Hispanic population, the United States can better its odds at staying competitive in an increasingly global marketplace, according to IBM Corp., one of four corporate sponsors of the two-day event taking place at the IBM Palisades Executive Conference Center.
