Sally Ride Science™

Sally Ride Science is an innovative science content company dedicated to supporting girls’ and boys’ interests in science, math and technology. The organization believes that when children are encouraged to pursue their interests, they are inspired to think about their futures, and are better prepared to pursue a wide range of exciting opportunities in high school, college and beyond.

Dr. Sally Ride, best known as America’s first woman in space, founded Sally Ride Science in 2001 to create quality programs and products that educate, entertain, engage and inspire. Best known as the first American woman to travel in space, Dr. Ride is CEO of Sally Ride Science as well as a physicist, educator, and author.

A key part of the corporate mission is to make a difference in girls' lives, and in society's perceptions of their roles in technical fields. The publications and out-of-school programs bring science to life and show kids that science is creative, collaborative, fascinating and fun.
Recent programs include a Science Festival at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif., where elementary and middle school girls learned how to extract DNA from a strawberry, take apart a computer, and search for life on other planets. The festival featured a talk by Astronaut Janice Voss, discovery workshops for students given by local scientists and engineers, and workshops for parents and teachers on ways to support students' interests in science and math. The festival also includes a street fair with hands-on activities, booths, food and music.

Other Sally Ride Science programs include TOYchallenge, Educator Institutes, summer camps, and after-school programs.  Publications include award-winning science books, science career books, and innovative Classroom Sets to supplement science instruction.  The goal of the publications and programs is to bring science to life and show kids that science is creative, collaborative, fascinating and fun.
